Troubleshooting: "No Tax Rate Found" Error on an Estimate or Invoice

What to check when SynkedUP shows a "No tax rate found" error, whether you're using SynkedUP Payments or QuickBooks Online for invoicing.

If you see a "No tax rate found" error when working on an estimate or invoice, it means SynkedUP can't find a tax rate to apply to the job. The fix depends on whether you're using SynkedUP Payments or QuickBooks Online for invoicing.

First: Which invoicing system are you using?

The steps are different depending on your setup. Find your section below.

If you're using SynkedUP Payments

Check these three things in order:

1. Is the work area marked as taxable?

Open the estimate and look at each work area. Make sure the work area is marked as taxable. If you're using a Time & Materials pricing type, also check the individual line items β€” each item needs to be marked taxable separately.

2. Are your tax rates set up under Invoicing Settings?

Go to Invoicing Settings and make sure you have at least one tax rate configured. If no tax rates exist here, SynkedUP has nothing to apply β€” and you'll get the "No tax rate found" error.

3. Is the correct tax rate selected on the work area?

When you mark a work area as taxable, you also need to select which tax rate to apply at the work area level. If the work area is flagged as taxable but no rate is selected, you'll get the error.

If you're using QuickBooks Online

Check these three things in order:

1. Is the work area marked as taxable?

Same as above β€” open the estimate and confirm the work area is marked as taxable.

2. Are your tax rates set up correctly in QuickBooks Online?

Log into QuickBooks Online and verify your tax rates are configured and active. If a tax rate was deleted, deactivated, or never set up in QBO, SynkedUP won't be able to pull it through.

3. Is the linked service set up to tax correctly?

In QuickBooks Online, find the service (product/service item) that your cost code is linked to. Make sure that service is configured to apply tax correctly in QBO. If the service itself isn't set up as taxable in QuickBooks, the tax rate won't come through to SynkedUP.
