How to Use Groups to Organize Work Areas

How to create Groups to bundle Work Areas together, and why grouped items show one combined total rather than separate selectable options.

Written by Fred Pape

Groups let you bundle multiple Work Areas together on a job or proposal — think of them like folders. They're useful for organizing a big project into sections, or for presenting a customer with options to choose between.

Creating a Group

  1. Create your Work Areas first (for example: Patio, Plantings, Lighting).

  2. Click Add Group.

  3. Name the group (for example: "Option 1," "Phase 2," or "Contract").

  4. Drag each Work Area into that group.

  5. Repeat for additional groups if needed (for example, "Option 2" or an add-ons group).

Important: Groups show one combined total, not separate ones

If you're using Groups to give a customer multiple options to choose between on a proposal, keep this in mind: work areas placed inside the same Group are shown to the customer as one combined total, not as separate selectable line items. Grouping doesn't create a "pick one of these" experience — it just visually bundles the totals together.

If you want the customer to see and approve separate options individually (for example, "Option 1: $2,400" vs. "Option 2: $3,100" as distinct choices), don't put them in the same Group — set them up as separate, ungrouped Work Areas instead so each keeps its own total and approval status.

Use Groups when you want to organize and combine related work into one section of a proposal. Use separate ungrouped Work Areas when you want the customer to choose between distinct priced options.
