What's the Difference Between Marking a Job Lost and Archiving It?

Lost means the customer decided not to move forward. Archive files an old job or estimate away. Here's when to use each.

Written by Fred Pape

Both options clear a job or estimate out of your way, but they mean different things. You'll find both on the job's Details page.

Lost

Mark a job Lost when the customer decided not to move forward. It's a record of what happened.

Archive

Archive is a way to clean up old jobs and estimates and file them away. Use it to tidy up. It doesn't say anything about whether you won or lost the work.

Which should I use?

  • The customer said no, picked someone else, or backed out: mark it Lost.

  • It's old, finished, or just clutter you don't want to look at: Archive it.

Good to know

  • Neither one changes your reports.

  • You can bring a job back at any time, whether it was marked Lost or archived.

To mark a job Lost or archive it

  1. Open the job.

  2. Go to the Details tab.

  3. Mark it Lost or Archive it from there.
