Can I Merge Two Duplicate Customers?

There's no merge button, but here's how to clean up a duplicate customer.

Short answer: SynkedUP doesn't have a "merge customers" button. You can still clean up a duplicate by moving the jobs to the customer you want to keep and then removing the extra customer.

What to know first

  • Jobs can be moved from one customer to another.

  • Properties belong to one customer and can't be moved. If the duplicate has its own address, it stays with the duplicate. Add that address to the customer you're keeping.

  • A job that already has an invoice can't be moved.

Step 1: Decide which customer to keep

Pick the profile with the most complete information (phone, email, QuickBooks link) and keep that one.

Step 2: Move each job to the customer you're keeping

  1. Open the job you want to move.

  2. Go to the Details tab.

  3. Click the Move button.

  4. Choose the customer and the property you want the job moved to.

  5. Click OK.

Repeat for every job on the duplicate customer.

Step 3: Remove the extra customer

Once the duplicate has no jobs left, open it and click Remove customer. This moves it to the recycle bin, so if you remove one by mistake you can recover it later.

Important: Move all the jobs first. SynkedUP will let you remove a customer that still has jobs, but those jobs end up in an error state. We don't recommend it.

What if I can't move the jobs because they have invoices?

Jobs with invoices can't be moved. If both customers have jobs with invoices, you won't be able to move them and remove one of the customers. In that case, leave both in place and rename the duplicate so no one uses it by accident. For example, add "DO NOT USE" to the start of the name. From then on, create new jobs under the customer you're keeping.

Quick cheat sheet

  • No merge button.

  • Move jobs from the job's Details tab, using Move.

  • Properties can't be moved.

  • Always move the jobs before you remove the customer. Removing a customer that still has jobs puts those jobs in an error state.

  • Remove customer sends it to the recycle bin, where it can be recovered.

  • Jobs with invoices can't be moved. Label the extra customer "DO NOT USE" instead.
