Troubleshooting: Division dropdown shows "no data"
If you're on a work area (Service Ticket, Project, or Maintenance) and the Division dropdown shows "no data" — meaning there's nothing to choose — one of three things is going on.
Cause 1: No Divisions are set up yet
Brand-new accounts won't have any Divisions until someone creates them. Follow the steps above to create at least one.
Cause 2: Your Divisions exist, but none match the job type you're on
Divisions are scoped by job type (Project, Service Ticket, or Maintenance — set in step 7 above). If all your Divisions are scoped to Projects and you're trying to use one on a Service Ticket, the Service Ticket's Division dropdown will be empty.
The fix: Go to Setup → System Setup → Project Divisions, open one of your existing Divisions, and either change its job type to match — or add a new Division specifically scoped to the job type you're working on.
Cause 3: Your Divisions exist with the right job type, but aren't toggled "available to schedule"
Step 8 in the setup walkthrough above shows a toggle that makes a Division available to schedule. If that toggle is off, the Division won't appear in dropdowns.
The fix: Open the Division in Setup → System Setup → Project Divisions and turn on the "available to schedule" toggle.
Related: Division set to "N/A" on a work area (QBO time export failure)
A related but distinct symptom: if a work area's Division is set to N/A (rather than the dropdown being empty), time entries on that work area may fail to export to QuickBooks. For that case, see Troubleshooting: Time Won't Export to QuickBooks (cause #4).
